東京，是一處物質之極，自抑之極，偏執之極，科技之極的機械冷酷異境。這與我們心中的惡夢－在大片黑暗中、冰冷燈光下，移動著無數人機一體的生化走獸未來世界，有著相當的雷同性 。然而，在去年311的地震中，我們看見了一個不一樣的人性東京，堅毅冷靜卻同時奮不顧身的熱血，既便是在巨大的核災面前，東京也將人類的高貴情操，真實地展現在我們眼前。下一期cacao，藉由東京的進步，探討物質文明已經遠遠超出了人 類真正的需求，那美好、平衡、和諧的生存狀態是否是個回憶？還是無法實現的憧憬。
Tokyo is a mechanical, indifferent, and detached city with extremes of materialism, self-oppression, bigotry and technology. The city resembled our nightmare version of the future world where mass darkness and cold street lights engulf the city, with numerous hybrid human androids moving around. However, the catastrophe of the earthquake on 2011 11th of March showed us a different, humane aspect of Tokyo, where traits of determination, calmness, selflessness and passion were strikingly visible. In the face of a massive nuclear disaster, Tokyo still expressed noble sentiments in front of us. On the next issue of cacao, under the topic of Tokyo’s technological advancements, we will discuss how the materialistic civilization has gone beyond the basic human needs. Is this wonderful, balanced and peaceful life only a memory？Or is it an expectation which cannot be met？
